Thanks for raising the subject.
Retirement is a nonsense. However, it can be a time when you could improve yourself, help your community or people who have had less luck with life than others.
Years ago I watch a Japanese movie "The Ballad of Narayama" narrating how old people where send to death in the mountains when they didn't have any more possibility to earn their food. It was 19th century Japan, and the community was poor. The "ballad " happened when elders didn't have any more teeth, so they couldn't chew the leaves to make fermented beverage--the only thing they could do. They couldn't pay their tribute to the family/society anymore.
For me a healthy society is one where everybody participate--with its own possibilities or competencies--, but the children.
