Sure thing the climate as always changed. Just before we were thinking of a simple and static world. Smart scientists start to understand that we know almost nothing about us and the world we live in.
All fields have made sharp turns since a few decades. The only one field which hasn't changed is climate change! Why? Or climate scientists are smarter or dumber than their colleagues. Neither of the two.
The reason is that whatever mathematical models you compute, if you don't know the physical system you're working on, it's just nonsense to run simulations.
