Sorry, I don't agree, even if the idea is there.

Eratosthenes invented a device to measure Earth. Galileo invented the telescope, and with it discovered (or confirmed) that Earth revolve around the Sun.

But in my opinion:

Newton discovered gravity like anybody else who falls for the first time. Later then, he invented the law of universal gravitation. Before him, Pascal also tried to invent a model for the gravity but did not get it right.

Einstein invented mathematical models for relativity, trying to find a solution to a problem of train synchronisation.

Or, someone discover a vein of gold, and then invent a business to make profit of it.
