It's because most of us see others as a their function within the society. We call it dehumanization when it is about crimes. However it happens all the time in every type of interaction. We objectify the other whatever they are: opponent, prospect, supplier, or friends, even the loved one sometimes. And usually when someone is put in a box it stays there for long.

In a society promoting stress, anxiety and quick judgment it won't gonna change :(
