As with any new discovery, the start can be difficult. I'm sure when electricity or gas first became utilities there were lots of little problems, misunderstandings and kickbacks.
Your example of the Amazon store is wrong. It's a laboratory, so it's difficult to find the business balance. We are still learning. And we are beginning to understand that to make AI intelligent we need to stack sensors. It is their multiplicity or ubiquity that makes intelligence possible.
And just to extend the subject, the reason why humans (or animals) will outperform AI for a long time is because of our magnificent bodies full of sensors all interconnected.
